Wow, what an incredible Thanksgiving holiday we had. I really went to town on what I prepared for dinner and ended up making so many great side dishes, many of which I pulled from this very website. I have never felt so prepared for such an extravagant meal. We had a really great time.
The only issue I ran into over the entire holiday was missing about a week posting to this blog. I fell behind drastically and now I think it’s about time to make up for it. And since I made a few dishes that I have yet to share here, I thought that would be a great place to start. Today, I’ll be posting the recipe for the fantastic semi-custom cranberry sauce we enjoyed so much. It’s a super simple recipe to put together and it really only takes a few minutes from start to finish. What you’ll end up serving will be sure to evoke some “Oohs” and “Ahhs.”
The Recipe
This isn’t your regular old cranberry sauce. This one is surely a step above. It uses fresh cranberries, along with some maple syrup, honey, orange juice, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Actually, I just gave you the entire recipe. It’s that easy. Of course, I’ll give you the directions for what to do down below, but let me tell you that the result will be a tart, yet sweet cranberry sauce that tastes like the season. The cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg make sure of that.
Ingredients
Yields: 2 1/2 Cups
1 12-Ounce Bag Fresh Cranberries
4 Tablespoons Real Maple Syrup
4 Tablespoons Honey
Zest From 1 Orange
1/2 Cup Orange Juice
1/4 Cup Water
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
Step-by-Step Instructions
I’d like to thank Two Peas & Their Pod for this recipe. This is a good one and even though I changed it up a bit, this website was still my inspiration.
Clean the Cranberries
Empty the bag of fresh cranberries in a colander and place them under some running water to clean them off. Shake things around a bit to be thorough.
Cook the Cranberries
Warm a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Then, add the cranberries, maple syrup, honey, orange zest, orange juice and water to the pot.
Wait until the liquid in the pot begins to boil and then stir all the ingredients together. Then, lower the heat to medium-low and let everything cook for about 20 minutes or until you see the cranberries break down somewhat.
Stir in the Spice
Turn off the heat. Then, add in the cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg and stir those spices into the cranberries.
Plate & Serve
When everything is finished, place the cranberry sauce into a bowl with a serving spoon. Add the sauce to your dinner plates and enjoy!
The Final Cranberry Sauce
Every time I make this, I am reminded how easy it is. I feel like some sort of hero because of the result. Give this delicious cranberry sauce recipe a try. Then, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Thanks for reading!
